The Plastics Institute of North America recently released its report, “Making Green Stand,” a report revealing the results of a scientific study comparing the total production of 22 commonly used plastics in the marketplace. While this report focuses on the production of PET plastics, the results paint a pretty grim picture of the chemicals, hormones, and antibiotics found in our favorite store-bought goods.

One of the chemicals found inluce-PET, a common type of PET plastic, is a hormone. When flushed down the toilet, PET end products have been found to diverge from the standard human diet, depositing waste in our water supplies.

While neither CO 2 nor VOCs are considered carcinogens, research suggests that low exposure to either may increase the risk of criminal activity. Certain low-level synthetic organic chemicals, found in almost any municipal water supply, have been found to gateway members of the indefinitely long list of diseases from primary care to mental disorders, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Although most researchers agree that they still have much to learn about plastic and its effects on the human body, there is growing consensus that the handling and manufacture of PET may be a contributor to the incidence of mental disorders. PET may be especially detrimental to the developing immune system.

The December 2013 report from the North American Asssociation for Remedialorative Medicine also found that PET plays a role in childhood development disorders, with symptoms including attention problems, hyperactivity, depression, and behavioral problems.
